Position Profile
We are looking for a temporary Banquet Captain who will play a critical role in ensuring the successful planning and execution of events at the Edmonton Convention Centre. Reporting to the Banquet Manager, you will work closely with Supervisors and Wait Staff to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction and adherence to the event specifications.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication & organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service while fostering a positive guest experience and engaged workforce.
As the successful candidate for this role, your key responsibilities will include:
- Event Supervision: Lead and supervise a team of Supervisors, wait staffs, and bartenders to ensure events are executed smoothly and professionally.
- Client Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients during events, addressing any requests or concerns promptly and courteously.
- Team Management: Assign tasks to supervisors and wait staff and ensuring clear communication and delegation of responsibilities.
- Setup and Breakdown: Oversee the setup and breakdown of event spaces, including furniture arrangement, decor, and AV equipment as per event requirements which includes back of house as well.
- Service Excellence: Ensure the highest standards of service are maintained throughout the event, including greeting guests, serving food and drinks, and ensuring all needs are met.
- Troubleshooting: Handle any unforeseen issues or conflicts that may arise during the event, ensuring a seamless guest experience.
- Event Execution: Monitor the timeline of events, including speeches, meals, and other scheduled activities, ensuring they stay on track.
- Inventory Management: Ensure that all supplies, such as linens, glassware, and silverware, are maintained and ready for each event.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the kitchen, Event Managers, and management team to ensure the proper coordination and success of the event.
- Post-Event Reports: Provide feedback and post-event reports on staff performance and any improvements needed for future events.
- Health and Safety Compliance: Comply with Health and Safety policies, regulations, and environmental standards while promoting a safe work environment for clients, guests, contractors, and employees.
- Sustainability: Adhere to waste sorting guidelines and support ECC’s sustainability commitment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Details
Qualifications
- 2-3 years working in Banquets, preferably in a large hotel or convention centre environment.
- Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role in a banquet or hospitality setting, an asset.
- Experience working within a unionized environment, an asset.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on customer service.
- Knowledge of event management, health and safety protocols, and food service standards.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to delivering a high-quality guest experience.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, often working long hours on your feet and lifting heavy objects.
- Experience using Event Management Software and proficient in MS Office Suite.
