Edmonton, AB – Edmonton Convention Centre chef de partie Francis Derrick Flores and his commis chef David Dubuc-Poirier have won gold at the Worldchef Regional Semi-Finals of the Global Chefs Challenge in Toronto on March 25. Flores and Dubuc-Poirier will go on to represent the Americas at the Global Chefs Challenge Worldchefs Congress and Expo 2020 in St. Petersburg, Russia.
After winning against British Columbia and Ontario at the Global Chefs Challenge Canadian Selection on January 26, the pair represented Team Canada and competed alongside the United States, Ecuador and Chile at the Worldchefs Regional Semi-Finals in Toronto on May 25. In this recent round of the competition, teams received five hours to prepare their dishes with an hour and a half for service. Chefs Francis and David prepared 12 plates of each dish over a four-course serving with the assistance of one sous chef. Their winning menu included torched mi-cuit salmon, spice glazed duck breast, tourtière spiced farce wrapped striploin and a dark chocolate ganache pistachio ice cream.

The Global Chefs Challenge Worldchefs Congress and Expo 2020 in St. Petersburg, Russia is a prestigious competition where the world’s top chefs convene to showcase mastery in the culinary arts. In the final round from July 28-31, 2020, 40 teams will compete for the title of world’s best chef in three categories: Global Chefs Challenge, Global Pastry Chefs Challenge and Global Young Chefs Challenge.
